Some things I've learned since getting here:
- A North Carolina winter is good because, unlike Perth, it is cold BUT dry and sunny.
- When there is a heavy frost the ground makes a nice sound when you walk on it.
- Plants that look otherwise soft and pathetic (i.e. cabbage and violets) can survive surprisingly low temperatures (-10˚C so far).
- Outside a narrow temperature window jeans are absolutely useless. I think this temperature window is about 5 to 15˚C.
- I’d prefer to ride in snow than rain. Snow is slippery but dry.
- Wool is an awesome fabric and cotton sucks.
- Once it gets below freezing clothes need to be wind-proof.
- Always carry a beanie and gloves.
- Buffalo skin is good if you can get it.
- There's no such thing as strong coffee, just soft people.

Ermmmm youre back at uni now - from personal experience in uni in bonny Scotland jeans and a T shirt are good from -15 to 25 come rain hail snow (and even sun)
The only advantages I ever saw of cold weather was more time spent close together. Sharing warmth....
Tim.
During the snow in Vancouver, I wore my motorcycle jacket everywhere. It makes for good ski aparell too. Jeans seemed fine, except when it rained at 2'C
